<image:caption>I have to sincerely apologise to any client or friend I have told to rest more to avoid burning out. Funny thing… As it turns out, I found out last week during my quick 5 day trip to a sunny location to “rest”… I also could not rest and felt guilt for not being productive. I had to ask myself some uggggly questions to get to the bottom of why I could not rest no matter what I tried, but they were worth it because yes.. I actually did find the magical Neverland of guilt-free rest, believe it or not! Let me share them with you so we can all just bloody relax in peace for once.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Blog - When it’s all too much… Unveiling the true causes of overwhelm + daily creative strategies for mental health</image:title>
<image:caption>THE EXERCISE ⚡ To manage overwhelm, stress, anxiety and exhaustion that is damaging your mental health… First up, we have to regulate that body and brain. It has to be your first thing you before making conclusions or decisions about your life and yourself. You do your worst thinking when you’re stressed. Regulation first, analysis second. When you are dysregulated, you are essentially in that fight-flight-freeze state we’ve all heard of. And it’s incredibly hard to think positively, be confident, be calm and ultimately be the most mentally healthy version of you that you want to be.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Blog - When it’s all too much… Unveiling the true causes of overwhelm + daily creative strategies for mental health - 3. Rituals + Strategies:</image:title>
<image:caption>How do you begin and end the day? Build a ritual just for yourself to signal hello yes we are safe, let’s begin and end safely. (maybe it’s lovvvvving that cup of coffee in the morning and having it as your special time, you’re all in mindfully) For when you are stressed or notice those anxious/negative thought spirals - Make a list of 5 things you can do to break the spiral. Make the list when you’re not overwhelmed, so you can quickly look at it and go YEP i’m doing that thing to break the cycle before I become too dysregulated. Mine is always step away —> Go outside without my phone if possible —> When not possible, have a shower, stretch, have a cup of tea to recenter. Deep breathing Ya…. Boring I know, but breath = life and if you’re not breathing properly (which you’re prob not if you’re wound up), you’re likely continuing on the path of stress (visualising white smoke all over you can help for me but each their own) Focussing or distracting self visually (signals of safety for your body) - Staring at a point on the wall can do if there is nothing else nice you can do in your environment We all fluctuate in our regulation throughout the day, that’s natural - but its when you’re getting stuck/so quick to react that it is an issue.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Blog - Anxiety and Overwhelm: A Guide for Increasing Low Confidence</image:title>
<image:caption>THE EXERCISE The next time you’re anxious or overwhelmed, follow the steps below. How can I ground or soothe myself right now? You do your worst thinking when you’re panicking. Regulation first, analysis second. What would this mean about me if it all went wrong? Would I be stupid, a failure, a dork? Do I genuinely feel incapable? Am I unsupported in my job? Can I get support elsewhere? Can I structure things to feel more safe? Or do I feel I am incapable at some level anyway, and this would confirm that fear? Sorry… that was a brutal prediction but it may be true.. How can I make one small (!!) move toward the thing/situation/conversation to get momentum out of my freeze/overwhelm? BABY STEPS! How can I show myself through DOING that I am capable? eg. That one little thing then the next little thing then when it’s all done… REFLECT ON HOW COOL AND CAPABLE YOU ARE! Know that your worth is not reflected by the success or failure of this thing. This thing is going to go how it’s going to go. Do your little part. Do not (please!) take the outcome as a reflection on you.</image:caption>

<image:caption>️The journal prompts: So here’s what I want you to do: ✍ Grab paper and a pen. Turn your page horizontally. Mark 3 points - on the left side at the start of the line, 5 years ago. in the middle - Now (2024). On the right hand side - in 5 years. 2. ✍ 5 years ago - Detail every bit of your every day life back then. Job, feelings, relationships, confidence. 3. ✍ Now - Detail every bit of your life NOW, same as above. Include “lost” or another word here for how you’re feeling. 4. ✍ In 5 years - What do you want that is not here now? Who is that version of you? What do they do, how do they feeL? Now a word of caution - this is NOT goal setting or manifesting. This is for you to drop in, be honest with yourself, reflect on how far you’ve come and notice what the gaps are currently. A few words might come out, a whole novel might come out - just go with it.</image:caption>

Coming from a family of shopping passionates, I need to check myself and ask “why am I buying this? what will it bring me? am I holding myself back from something out of fear? Am I only buying to impress?” etc etc. Unsurprisingly, the self awareness doesn’t always win.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mental Health Blog - Lost in your life direction in your 20s? Stop making choices that don’t create the life you want. - I’m an Australian born n bred clinical counsellor currently living, loving and working on the unceded lands of the Lekwungen People in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Out of my own frustrations from working in and researching youth mental health across the past decade seeing clients with anxiety, depression, relationship issues and feeling lost in who they are, I created Cocoon Mental Health, providing sessions, workshops and content for those of us who want to move on from our family issues and thrive in this big, sometimes confusing life. Cocoon uses a chilled-out, creative approach to therapy (no boring, clinical b.s here!) with the belief that you can do and be all the things you want to - because you’ve always deserved more.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog for Mental Health Professionals - For mental health professionals: What teens want you to know about their social media use + what to say.</image:title>
<image:caption>Last week I took a day off in the name of self care to go to a sauna on an old navy boat in the harbour (niche) and I have to tell ya.. After 4 hours without my phone, I was clear, more curious, more creative and calm. I could genuinely feel my personality, gratitude and kindness for myself and everyone else rising. I took that experience into my sessions with young people this week, thinking.. ”who could they be, how could they feel and what awesome things could they do if we removed the tech?!?!”</image:caption>

<image:caption>Mental Health + Wellbeing Workshops Where: You choose When: You choose Early intervention and education is the number one leading factor in preventing the development of poor mental health. Many young people either don’t want to, don’t need to or can’t access one-on-one therapy, leaving the majority scratching their heads. This workshop packs all of the knowledge, strategies and tools explored with people in individual sessions into a fun, approachable and creative nutshell. More</image:caption>

<image:caption>We know that the mental health of young people has severely declined over the past 18 months, and our mental health system is overloaded and under-resourced. We still don’t know what is ahead of us, but through this workshop we will explore this wild time to process the upheavals over the past year and shift mindset to spring into the future with excitement and vision. <image:caption>Transitions, transitions Where: You choose When: You choose Transitions are hard. Whether it’s moving from one educational stage to the next, taking on further study or phasing into another area of your life - they’re tricky. Our brains like consistency to keep us safe, making it harder to adjust to the new. This workshop seeks to make it easier, working together to help you graciously say au-revoir to what has been and confidently walk into the exciting next phase. More</image:caption>
