Essentials for Adolescent Counselling

Professional Development Workshop

With Counsellor Ellie Rose

10am-1pm (AEST)
Tuesday, 23 April 2024
Online, Australia-wide via Zoom

3-hour Intensive Professional Development Workshop

I help mental health clinicians achieve confidence and mastery in youth counselling by building expert skills, without the overwhelm and guess work.

Learn how to navigate the most
common issues in adolescent counselling, with practical strategies to give you
confidence as a therapist -
all within 3 jam-packed hours.

What to expect (the details..)

You will learn:

  • Adolescent development as informed by the latest research, to provide a foundation for your counselling approach and be able to explain teen behaviour to parents and caregivers

  • A diverse range of skills and therapeutic approaches to improve rapport building with adolescent populations

  • Evidence-based frameworks, tried-and-tested strategies and exercises from counselling 100’s of teens

  • What is most important for supporting teens and what works for them in counselling (using information from teens themselves!)

  • How to deliver therapeutic approaches tailored for adolescents, addressing unique issues arising in teen populations with a high level of understanding and skill implementation

What we will explore:

  • Common pitfalls that us well-meaning counsellors make when working with teens (such as neglecting the support of family and mismanaging their resistance) and discuss their practical solutions to help you feel confident in managing anything that comes your way

  • Tried-and-tested techniques that work with (not against!) their unique developmental needs, to effectively meet what teens want in therapy

  • Impactful rapport-building techniques and practical strategies for working with challenging issues, such as power struggles and “taboo” conversations

    Learning methods will include:

The workshop will be limited to 25 participants to create an intimate,
collaborative, and connected learning environment.
I will explore the research and techniques, then open it up to the floor to
form a collaborative network amongst professionals.

We will engage in co-learning through case studies, group work, and
personalised supervision to ensure all attendees leave feeling confident and
prepared to support adolescent populations.

Why this workshop is different

  • There’s no fluff, no wasted time and focussed on practical applications you can use right away

    • I have attended way too many PD events as a participant where I felt I didn’t receive any practical solutions and contained hours of filler content I probably already knew..
So, I have condensed my expertise, research, experience and teen testimony on what really works - into 3 hours to create the most helpful workshop where you get the most out of your time.

  • An intimate, curated space for professionals to connect and receive live individual supervision

    • As mental health professionals, we don’t get enough opportunities to effectively network and connect to others in our field. Which is why I have limited the numbers of this workshop to form a community-feel where we can connect during and after the workshop, as well as opportunities to receive live supervision from myself with Q&A and
case studies using presenting problems participants will be asked to submit before the workshop.
So I can effectively support each participant, so they can go forward to effectively support can do the best work they can for our adolescents.
