With Counsellor Ellie Rose

Involving family in therapy is an essential ingredient of adolescent counselling.
However, navigating parent-child conflict, risk and safety and family system issues can be challenging and overwhelming as a clinician.

It is proven that family environment and family involvement in therapy is a defining factor for positive adolescent mental health outcomes.

Let’s dive into over an hour of focussed skill building to ensure you are confident in involving family in adolescent therapeutic care.

Taking principles from family therapy and
years of experience in specialist adolescent counselling..

We will explore:

  • How to engage in the Cocooned Care model for teen counselling, skilfully involving family and community in our care of teen clients

  • Strategies for improving parent-child relationships and communication

  • Crisis intervention and safe guarding practices for teens when involving family (suiciidality, self harm, risks of neglect/abuse)

  • Navigating challenges that may arise for us as clinicians such as confidentiality issues, resistance from teens and competing wishes for therapy from parents

At the end of our 1.25 hr workshop, participants will be able to confidently:

  • Identify family dynamic challenges that negatively impact mental health of clinicians

  • Implement strategies to improve relationships and communications within the family unit

  • Navigate crisis and safety challenges that uniquely present in teens
